Salford’s Swordfish Studios has been acquired by Monumental Games in Nottingham.
The massive expansion of the East Midland’s company has recently seen it open studios in India.
Specialising in middleware technology for 'massively multi-player' online gaming and 'virtual worlds', it bought the Salford studio from Activision, part of the Vivendi Universal Group. "When this opportunity arose it immediately made sense," said Monumental's CEO, Rik Alexander. "The Swordfish team are a perfect fit in terms of culture, expertise and ambition [...] Acquiring the Swordfish business in Manchester gives us the capacity to invest ahead of the curve and to maintain our growth profile throughout next year." 26 developers are based at the offices in MediaCity and their specialist knowledge will help the company develop as a market leader in online gaming.
