Food Northwest, a promotional body which supports the region’s food and drink industry, has launched an e-business portal FoodPort.

Food Northwest, a promotional body which supports the region’s food and drink industry, has launched an e-business portal FoodPort.

FoodPort can be found at www.foodnw.co.uk

The site has been developed by Food NorthWest and AIMES, a technology transfer organisation based at the University of Liverpool. The objective of FoodPort is to develop new ways for food companies in the region to do business and increase efficiency and profitability.

The service is available to all food and drink businesses in Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside.

FoodPort provides the opportunity for regional businesses to reduce the cost of commodities through joint buying with other companies. The organisation claims that an initial scoping exercise in 2007 saw 10 companies realise savings of up to 10 per cent on their costs.
