The Malaria No More UK charity has turned to Manchester digital agency Reading Room to boost its profile online.
Its aim being to ensure every man, woman and child at risk of the disease in Africa has access to a mosquito net and malaria treatment by the end of 2010 and ultimately an end to malaria deaths by 2015. It’s already brought in celebrities, including David Beckham, Denise Lewis and Andy Murray to lead the drive. Reading Room’s role will be to promote its role nationally and push the campaign digitally. The US branch of the charity has already achieved global publicity ahead of World Malaria Day, as Ashton Kutcher challenged CNN to a Twitter race to gain 1m followers - and in doing so got a $500k donation. “Malaria kills more children under five in Africa than any other single disease. We believe the opportunity to be a part of our campaign to end malaria is an incredibly empowering and compelling proposition for our UK audience,” said Sarah Kline, executive director for Malaria No More UK. “The decision to engage Reading Room signals our ambition to use digital media to drive the message that ending malaria is achievable”.
