Digital agency Stardotstar picked up three prizes at the BIMA (British Interactive Media Association) awards in London last week. The awards are regarded as the UK digital industry’s ‘Oscars’ and were created to ‘celebrate creative excellence and best practice in interactive design’.
Stardotstar was one of only two winners – the other being agency GT- which collected three awards. Stardotstar was the only North West winner and one of only two regional winners in total. The three gongs were the ‘Education & Training Award’, the ‘Government & Information Award’ and the ‘Kids Award’. The client was the NRSI (Neighbourhood Road Safety Initiative a Department of Transport initiative). The agency’s CD-ROM - ‘Safe & Sound’ - used an animated cartoon to communicate important road safety messages to 10-12 year-olds and over 90,000 have been produced. Featuring comedian John Thomson, and with cameos from local celebs such as Mark and Lard, the production has clearly proved to have been a great success.
According to the agency team the CD teaches young children about road safety, particularly those from disadvantaged wards, in an “urban, irreverent and actually fun way” – embedding safety messages in jokes, catchphrases and interesting plotlines. Bright, animated characters and games help the under-12 audience learn serious issues in an engaging way.
Earlier this year the agency won the best e-learning project at the 2007 Big Chip Awards. StarSet was established in 2001 by Gareth Langley and Gerard O’Brien. Clients 3i, Channel 4, the BBC, GMPTE, Warburtons and AstraZeneca. www.stardotstar.com
