The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s website www.liverpoolphil.com was one of three regional winners at the national awards held at St George’s Hall in Liverpool this week.
It was the first time that the awards event has been held outside the capital.
Organised by VisitBritain, the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence are the annual tourism ‘Oscars’.
The website was relaunched in October 2006 with an objective to make it easier to access information about the Phil and its programme.
Visitors are now able to check the view from their prospective seats, listen to and watch audio and video clips, purchase memberships, CDs and digital downloads.
Together with a related marketing campaign, online sales have almost doubled since the relaunch, now accounting for over a third all ticket sales.
The site and marketing campaign was created by digital agency Mando.
Goodey
Liverpool’s tourist information centre was another gold winner.
Felicity Goodey, chair of tourism at England’s Northwest said: “This latest set of awards shows just how far the region has come in turning England’s Northwest into a recognised, high quality, international visitor destination.
"Last year we won all the major categories for accommodation; this year we have shown we not only offer great places to stay, but increasingly sophisticated ways of finding out about, and booking, what we have to offer.”
