The elusive Michael Welch, the former chief executive of the NWDA funded Digital Industries North West, failed to turn up in court yesterday to answer multiple charges of fraud. It looks likely that the next course of action will be the issuing of a warrant for his arrest…

As previously reported on How-Do, Welch has been the subject of a police investigation after his initially promising appointment at DINW collapsed in cloud of unfulfilled promises and, allegedly, unaccounted for funds.

Since that time (late 2004) the US born self-professed ‘multi-millionaire’ has been noticeable by his very conspicuous absence from the digital business scene.

How-Do has since learnt that both he and his former partner, Ann Hunt, turned up at an initial hearing at Warrington Magistrates Court on 31 October.

Both pleaded not guilty to three charges of fraud at this juncture, a move that then allowed them to gain access to the evidence against them. The next stage was the court appearance yesterday.

An official at the court confirmed to How-Do that Welch had not turned up for his session. The next usual course of action, he explained, would be the issuing of a warrant for his arrest, which, although he didn’t have Welch’s file to hand, he expected would now be underway.

Rumours that Welch may have decided to go on a canoeing trip after seeing the evidence could not be confirmed at the time of writing…

The sum concerned is rumoured to be around 1.2 MILLION! How does the NWDA's interview process actually work? Are the people that appointed him still interviewing and appointing people?
