Zen Internet receives £2m grant to support regional expansion | Print |  Email to a friend

An SFI grant of just under £2m from the NWDA has been awarded to Zen Internet of Rochdale as part of an expansion plan which it is hoped will lead to the creation of 250 new jobs over the next five years.
An SFI grant of just under £2m from the NWDA has been awarded to Zen Internet of Rochdale as part of an expansion plan which it is hoped will lead to the creation of 250 new jobs over the next five years.

Zen, which is a rarity among ISPs in that it is still independent, was one of the first ISPs in the UK back in 1995.

The grant has enabled Zen to relocate from three separate sites in Rochdale to a single new HQ building at Sandbrook Park in Rochdale.

This flagship development in the Northwest demonstrates Zen Internet’s continuing commitment to the region and dedication to offering an exciting and innovative environment in which to work.

Part of the grant will become repayable if certain agreed financial targets are met.

Richard Tang, Zen’s MD said: “By moving to Sandbrook Park, Zen Internet is demonstrating its commitment to remain in Rochdale, the town where it was founded.

“When I set the company up in 1995 there were four of us. Today Zen employs over 290 staff and this additional 150,000 sq ft of high quality office space provides a clear path for the continued growth of the company.”

Employee numbers at Zen have doubled in the past three years and the new building is understood to have the potential to house over 1000 employees.

Earlier this month Zen was awarded the Which? Best Buy for UK’s Best Broadband supplier.

Let's hope these taxpayer's millions don't go up in smoke and disappear like the NWDA's Outbox business website!!!!

We've been using Zen broadband for an age. Does what it should and if it doesn't they tend to sort it out pretty quickly. We drop their name every so often so a reasonable investment I think

Zen are rubbish at stopping spammers using their network. No wonder they are blocked by other isp's
