Abu Dhabi United Group appoint Edelman for City | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 19 September 2008

Edelman has confirmed today that it’s been drafted in by the Abu Dhabi United Group to provide support for their take-over of Manchester City.

Abu Dhabi United Group appoint Edelman for City
Relegation to world domination
According to manager Mark Hughes, the deal with the club’s new owners will be finalised this week.

It appears that Edelman will be aiding the club’s chairman and current PR team to make sure they have the supporters onside and to develop the brand globally. Dropping "United" from the Adug name may be one suggestion...

If fans were worried that billions would make the club unrecognisable, at least they had the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea to remind them of the roller-coaster ride that is all part of being a Blue.

More remarkable than all this is that Manchester City has a fan base in London. How-Do can reveal (thanks Google) that Edelman Europe’s President and CEO is City fan and he admits it in his blog .

I bet the CEO is a City fan, when he saw the contract his courage and ideals shone through and he could no longer hide his identity. I am proud.

As for brand genius by dropping the United in the owner's name, I have to say so what? We will give you billions of pounds. No we (as fans) won't accept until you drop that United name - I didn't hear that very much.

When Thaksin made silly decisions: sacking Sven when he met his target, Bell Pottinger were up against it however skilled they might be. When you have billions to spend, PR becomes a little easier.

Here's some free advice: let Mark Hughes do his job unfettered, with time and attainable goals. A little wild I know
