Merseyside-based PR firm Artemis Media & Public Affairs has been talking about its vital role in securing widespread media coverage for this week’s relaunch of the Cammell Laird shipyard.
Cammell Laird is arguably one of the most established, and evocative, names in the shipbuilding industry. Its Birkenhead-based facility built some of the world’s most famous ships, including the Ark Royal. Cammell Laird back in business However, the business went in to receivership in 2001 and has been trading as Northwestern Shiprepairers and Shipbuilders ever since – arguably not quite as evocative a moniker. The return to the Cammell Laird name marks a change in the fortunes for the firm, which has secured a £1bn deal with the Ministry of Defence and a tie-in with a major Italian shipyard, Fincantieri. It was Artemis’ job to communicate this happy news to a national media sagging under the strain of blanket credit crunch reportage and disseminate some positive messages about Merseyside and its manufacturing trade. This the team duly managed – securing coverage across the national press, while agency director Ben Pinnington was called upon to act as a live spokesman on BBC Radio Four’s Today programme, BBC Radio Five Live Breakfast and BBC Radio Merseyside. Pinnington compared Cammell Laird’s return to Kenny Dalglish and Dixie Dean returning in their prime for Liverpool and Everton. He said of the task: “This was the best single media day Artemis has worked on.” “The interest was huge with local, national and international media reporting the event. “Virtually all national newspapers splashed the story and we had brilliant coverage locally. We hope the PR effort can play its role in helping the shipyard grow.” www.artemismedia.co.uk Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
