At TBWA both were creative partners, Bastiman for copy and Richards for art, handling a list of clients that included ghd, Cussons and Nissan.
They have enjoyed a long working career together and both worked under Mawhinney when he was creative director at now defunct Scottish agency Faulds.
In a release from BJL yesterday, Mawhinney praised the duo, opining: “Tom is one of the most instinctive and talented art directors I've worked with and Pete will dig until he's found a great idea.
“They have both been building their management experience at some great agencies. They are ambitious and hungry."
The new deputies have an awards shelf that includes gongs from Cannes, D&AD, Campaign Press & Posters, Creative Circle, Roses and Epica.
