Blackpool Zoo has retained ICG Communications to handle its media relations account, having previously used agencies on an ad-hoc basis.
ICG, based in Warton, near Preston, pitched against three other agencies to secure the business.
Blackpool Zoo is owned by Parques Reunidos, which, in addition to Blackpool Zoo, owns and operates a further 60 other parks, attractions and leisure centres across Europe.
Judith Rothwell, communications manager at Blackpool Zoo, said: “”We are making significant investments in our facilities and attractions this year and we wanted an agency that has relevant experience in the travel and tourism sector. And since we had decided to appoint an agency on a retained basis, it was also important to us that we chose a team with whom we could have a good working relationship.”
The Zoo is two miles from the sea front from where a shuttle bus service is available. Over 1500 ‘residents’ can be found across its 32 acre site including elephants, big cats, gorillas, orangutans, sea lions, primates, zebras and kangaroos.
Last year, the Zoo won a ‘Large Visitor Attraction of the Year’ Award.
