Iconic singer-songwriter-nasally-intoned genius Bob Dylan is going to the Co-Op, with the news that his seminal classic Blowin’ in the Wind is set to be used in a major new retail campaign.
Dylan: Co-Op fan
The campaign for the Manchester-based society, created by McCann Erickson London, marks the culmination of a long-rebrand process that has taken in the entire operation and all of its 4,200 outlets.
Due to hit screens next month, the ad looks to differentiate the Co-Op from its rivals in the UK marketplace.
Dylan was apparently persuaded to let the firm use his song due to its fair trade and ethical credentials.
“We felt the sentiments expressed in Dylan’s masterpiece summed up the optimism we have for The Co-operative, so when Columbia Records told us Dylan had agreed we were delighted.
“We have invested heavily in the re-branding exercise and now through Dylan’s iconic track we can tell everyone about the new look Co-operative.”
