Cheetham Bell JWT picks up Shearings advertising account
Holiday and coach company WA Shearings has appointed Cheetham Bell JWT to handle its advertising business after deciding to consolidate the number of agencies it retains.

Shearings also recently changed its PR and media buying agencies from London shops to Brazen and MediaVest respectively.

Sales and marketing director Karen Gee told How-Do that the company is exploring a number of new opportunities and options and they were keen to embrace some new thinking ahead of the rebranding the company is planning.

Gee said she was a long term admirer of Cheetham Bell’s work, particularly in the leisure industry and following some meetings with the Manchester agency, they felt it was simply a good match.

Gee said Shearings had been using a number of external agencies including JDA, Millennium and Bright in addition to Shearings’ in house team. Some existing suppliers, such as Whitegate in Kent, will still be retained for future print projects. She added that media reports of the value (£2m) of the business were inaccurate.

Shearings, which is based in Wigan, merged with Wallace Arnold in March 2005. In addition to its numerous tour packages, the company owns 40 hotels and 12 high street travel shops.

Its customer market is presently a primarily older audience and the company is keen to attract younger travellers. A major evaluation exercise of the brand has recently been completed by Lambie Nairn on behalf of the company.
