CIPR releases full shortlist for the 2008 Pride awards | Print |  Email to a friend
Tuesday, 19 August 2008
The Chartered Institute of Public Relations has unveiled the teams that are in the running for this year’s North West Pride awards… and it seems like there could be rich pickings for firms such as Brazen, Tangerine, IPB Communications and a host of other regional outfits.
The Chartered Institute of Public Relations has unveiled the teams that are in the running for this year’s North West Pride awards… and it seems like there could be rich pickings for firms such as Brazen, Tangerine, IPB Communications and a host of other regional outfits.

The awards traditionally provide munificent hunting grounds for agencies from the ‘Manchester scene’ and this year looks to be no exception.

At the top of the nominations heap are Staniforth, Tangerine and Brazen, with appearances in five categories, while fellow Mancs Fido and IPB Communications achieved four nominations apiece.

There are 93 nominations in total (see below) coming in from 42 separate organisations.

The winners will be disclosed in a (no doubt champagne-fuelled) night of celebrations at the Hilton Hotel on 19 November

CIPR chairman Dave Sanders said the event promised to be “a night to remember” (champagne consumption dependent) and praised the geographical mix of the shortlist.

He said: “This year we have seen shortlisted campaigns from all areas of the North West, from Workington to Macclesfield and Clitheroe to Liverpool.

“It really does reflect the diversity and quality of work being achieved in our region.”

Manchester domination again! Was it ab that was commenting on the city's showing at the Big Chips recently and the lack of success for Liverpool teams?

Here we have exactly the same thing in terms of PR.

I can't believe there's as much of a gulf in the quality of the respective agency scenes as the awards suggest!

It could be the Liverpool agencies are busy getting on with fee-earning client work and don't have time to didicate to these awards....

yes it was

Manchester undoubtedly has a more advanced, and populated, consumer PR scene, but I'm surprised by the lack of b2b and public sector teams from Liverpool, and elsewhere for that matter.
There doesn't seem to be any city representation in the public affairs or public sector categories either, which is very disappointing.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd much rather earn a shortlist place for my hard work than feel that someone had given a nod in my direction 'to keep the scousers happy'.

This debate kicks off every time there's an awards ceremony looming. If companies in Cheshire, Liverpool and Wirral and feeling left out - maybe we should be getting some nominations in?

There's plenty of people commuting to work in Manchester from Liverpool etc, so while it might look like a Manchester dominated event - I'm confident there'll be some happy Liverpudlian individuals on the night itself, if not many companies or organisations.

PS - Good luck, Cameron Wells!

Be interesting to see Brazen and Tangerine fight it out! Great to see Cameron Wells on there too! Congrats to all - I've heard the Hilton has closed general public bookings on the 19th for fear of mad drunk PR yobs running riot in the hotel!

I for one am looking forward to Brazen getting the now traditional booing upon announcement of each of their nominations. It's a shame they've been nominated so much, as it darkens the respectability of the awards.
