Manchester’s Connectpoint has been selected by Northern Rail to handle all of the train operator’s advertising, marketing and PR needs across the board.
Manchester’s Connectpoint has been selected by Northern Rail to handle all of the train operator’s advertising, marketing and PR needs across the board.

The agency, part of the ambitious Hasgrove conglomerate, will now be charged with raising awareness of the Northern Rail brand amongst commuter and leisure traveller groups.

In doing so it will provide through the line support for the UK’s largest train operator, which currently boasts 2,500 local and regional train services every weekday, carrying over 78 million passengers a year.

Amongst the Quay Street team’s main tasks will be working alongside the client’s in-house press office team and producing all business to business and consumer marketing.

The relationship is beginning in earnest with new work on a half-price evening travel offer in Greater Manchester and a Duo ticket promotion.

Nick Bradshaw, the chief executive of Connectpoint, said of the win: "We are delighted to be working with Northern Rail, which is a young brand with plenty of hunger and determination.

“The win plays to our strengths in the transport sector through our work with the bus operations of First and the First North Western rail franchise, one of Northern Rail's predecessors.

“The campaigns will see two of our core disciplines, advertising and PR, working together and allow us to demonstrate our integrated credentials to the full."

Northern Rail is owned by Serco-NedRailways, which also has the 25-year concession for Merseyrail and operates the Docklands Light Railway network in London.
