With the staging of the UCI Track Cycling World Championships now over and the opening of the (9th) FINA World Swimming Championships 2008 on Wednesday, the first phase of Fast Web Media’s promotion of Manchester World Sport 08 has drawn to a close.
Phase two is expected to commence shortly as four more events are scheduled to take place in the coming months.
May will see the Paralympic World Cup, the UEFA Cup Final and the BUPA Great Manchester Run while the Hi-Tec World Squash Championships Manchester 2008 will take place in October.
Fast Web Media (FWM) was appointed last year after a tender issued by Manchester city council to promote awareness of the sporting year ahead and help in an ‘umbrella’ capacity with the individual events and their respective promotional teams.
The digital agency was appointed with a brief which was originally 100% digital in its scope but in fact Hugo Sharman of the Manchester agency told How-Do that traditional PR and activities eventually accounted for around half of the promotional work undertaken.
Sharman To help deliver its objectives, FWM formed a stakeholders group that included the council, Marketing Manchester, UK Sport and the NWDA.
Hugo Sharman said: “It’s been our job to profile and present the city as a leading sports destination; in terms of both the quality of the facilities and the breadth of events that go on here.”
FWM was formed in 1995 and deals with a number of leading sports and sports associated clients. These include Uefa, the Premier League, Nationwide and Carling. It employs over 30 staff in its Manchester office.
