Former Boddingtons site to host iconic new outdoor platform | Print |  Email to a friend

Property developer, Realty Estates (which owns the site in partnership with Ask), is constructing a major new outdoor advertising structure at the corner of Great Ducie Street in Manchester.

The new structure is expected to be unveiled this summer.

Realty and ASK Developments paid £12m for the site last Autumn.

Richard Colcomb, a spokesperson for Realty would not however disclose the exact nature of the new structure beyond saying it will be “exceptionally striking”.

Given the brewery’s association with the site, any development work is “politically sensitive” but Colcomb is confident that the structure they are erecting will integrate comfortably with the immediate area.

In addition to the new structure, Realty has a further seven traditional poster sites spread across the nine acre development, a mixture of 98 sheet and 48 sheet sites.

The company approached a number of outdoor advertising companies to see if they were interested in managing the contract to sell the available space across the eight spaces.

The successful company proved to be Ocean Outdoor of London. The four year contract will be the company’s first site in Manchester. Managing director Damian Cox said it was unlikely they would open a Manchester office to service the account but should other business come their way they might review that decision.

It is believed that a number of companies expressed interest in bidding for the contract including JCDecaux, Clear Channel and Titan.

Last August Ocean won a contract to manage the contract for Liverpool’s Concourse Tower, which is claimed to be the largest outdoor advertising site in the North of England. Concourse Tower, next to Lime Street station, is passed by around two million pedestrians and one million cars per month.

That contract however has ceased.
