Macclesfield agency provides communications solutions to pharmaceutical companies across Europe and beyond. It is the company's second change of ownership in six years.

The sale of its holding company, Thomson Medical Corporation, by parent Thomson Corporation, is one of a number of transactions that Thomson has been negotiating, with its acquisition of Reuters in hand.

Gardiner-Caldwell (GC) is by far the largest of the businesses that comprised Thomson Medical Corporation and the new holding company has been renamed KnowledgePoint360 Group, LLC (KP360).

Over 300 staff are employed at GC’s Macclesfield HQ out of KP360’s total headcount of 600. which provides communications solutions to pharmaceutical companies across Europe and beyond

KP360 serves the global pharmaceutical industry through a variety of brands including Gardiner-Caldwell, Physicians World, Scientific Connexions, Physicians World Speakers Bureau, Acumed, Geomed, Interphase, eMed-Media, and Medex-Media.

The HQ of KP360 will be in Secaucus, N.J., with additional offices in Newtown, Pa., New York, Chicago, Santa Clara, London and Mannheim, Germany.

ABRY Partners describes itself as one of the most experienced and successful media focused private equity investment firms in North America. Since 1989, it claims to have completed over $18.0 billion of leveraged transactions and other private equity and mezzanine investments, representing investments in more than 450 media properties.

Gardiner-Caldwell was established in Macclesfield in 1983 and has grown to become one of the largest specialist medical communications companies in the world.

In 2001 it was sold by its founders to the Thomson Corporation for a substantial sum.

The international pharmaceutical industry is its primary market.

Its activities include communications, publishing, research, brand development, marketing and strategic consultancy. Medical writers comprise just over one third of the total employed at Macclesfield.

In addition to the trading brand Gardiner-Caldwell, there are two further operating subsidiaries based at Macclesfield: Medex-Media and eMed-Media. The former is in exhibition design and management, and event branding and theming and the latter is in the design and delivery of electronic media consultancy.
