The Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive is reviewing its marketing suppliers, in a move that is set to see it recruit a new roster of agencies to cover a wide spectrum of services for the next four years.

The move comes at a pivotal time for the GMPTE - and an interesting time for the successful agencies - as much of the work that will be commissioned is sure to touch on the implications of the proposed congestion charge for the city.

If approved this will come into operation by 2013 at the earliest, by which time the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA), which controls the work of the GMPTE, will have spent over £2bn improving the city’s public transport infrastructure.

GMPTE: new routes to market
Sticking with the immediate marketing task in hand, the organisation is looking to create a framework of suppliers (as rosters seem to be increasingly called these days) across a variety of individual lots.

These are; marketing and brand development; media planning and media buying; promotions, public and media relations; creative and specialist services, printing services; distribution and fulfilment services; and signage and vehicle livery.

As such the GMPTE is looking at enlisting everything from PR agencies, to design firms and media independents.

The budgetary range for these services is stated as being between £1.7m and £2.3m.

Interested parties are encouraged to contact the organisation prior to the deadline of 19 September.

Update: Since this story first appeared a GMPTE spokesperson has been in touch with the following prepared quote:

“The aim is for GMPTE to establish a framework of approved service providers that our in-house teams can call upon, as and when required. The bulk of this work relates to print and distribution.

“The recently issued Official Journal of the European Union notice invites potential suppliers to initially register an interest in providing the services detailed and will be followed by a full and rigorous tendering process to ensure value for money.”
