Manchester design agency Hemisphere has created a new campaign for Preston's Museum Group to attract families to the city's five musems.
The brief was to develop a single concept that would bring all the different attractions together – the Harris Museum & Art Gallery, Museum of Lancashire, National Football Museum, Queen's Lancashire Regimental Museum and Ribble Steam Railway. They came up with the Hands on Gang, five finger puppets each of which represents one of the museums.
Puppets "We had to find a really upbeat way of getting across that visiting museums is a fun thing to do for families. The Hands On Gang were created as a kind of friendship group that kids could identify with and a means of helping families plan a great day out," explained Hemisphere's Andy O’Dwyer.
"Whilst each member of the Gang has a different interest, they have all been created in the same style, ensuring that they are easily recognisable across all elements of communication." The main focal point for the campaign is a new website , where visitors can meet the puppets and keep up to date with news and event. A local and national advertising campaign has been implemented to drive traffic to the site and Hemisphere has produced street liners, banners, signage and leaflets featuring the Hands On Gang.
