JAM pr has pulled off a multiple celebrity coup by recruiting a host of famous faces to get out their paintbrushes, pasta shapes and boxing gloves for cornerstone client Velcro.
The agency, set up last year by ex-Communique staffer Jaime Markey, has demonstrated the depth and glamour of its contact book by signing a glut of household names such as Bill Bailey, Joanna Lumley, Dave Spikey, Boris Johnson, Floella Benjamin, Wayne Hemmingway, Gail Porter and Fred ‘the weatherman’ Talbot to take part in a charity initiative.

This sees the army of a-listers (Fred Talbot will always be an a-lister in our eyes, Ed) producing individual art works – using Velcro where possible – that are now being sold off on EBay to raise money for the BBC’s Children in Need campaign.

Markey explained to How-Do that this gave Velcro a win-win situation – campaigning for vital charity funds, while building the brand and demonstrating the versatility of its products.

“(It’s) a fun initiative that the public can really get involved with.”

Speaking of getting the endeavour off the ground, she continued: “After weeks of planning, we hammered our database of celebrities, speaking with agents, managers and occasionally celebrities themselves.

“It wasn't the easiest of tasks, but where's the fun in easy?

“As you can imagine a lot of the celebrities we contacted were tied up with other commitments and so could not afford the time to get creative, but as you can see from our star-studded line up, we were able to recruit a fair few famous faces.”

Markey imparted that “most of those we have on board jumped at the chance” but that some did need a gentle twist of the arm to persuade them of their creative talents:

“Fred 'the weather man' Talbot for example said he wasn't at all artistic and so didn't want to let us down by creating something below par - but I think you'll agree that his art is fantastic.”

JAM also built the website to promote the initiative and the team have created a public exhibition at Manchester’s Triangle shopping centre, which runs through to the end of the EBay auction this Sunday 16 November.

For a full list of all the celebrities involved – including a sprinkling of North West media types – see the dedicated website.

To buy Fred Talbot’s picture, or any of the others, head to the special EBay auction.
