John Ryan, who sold his previous cosmetic surgery venture – Transform Medical Group - for over £20m in 2002, is back in the business with his latest venture MYA - Make Yourself Amazing Cosmetic Surgery.

Ryan, who is also chairman of Doncaster Rovers, lives between Cheshire, Cape Town and Majorca. To help launch and market the new business, he has appointed Wilmslow ad agency The Raft to develop the branding and the above the line advertising.

MYA has opened clinics in Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and London and will carry out additional surgery at two private hospitals.

It plans to open further clinics in Nottingham, Birmingham and Bristol next year and the plan is for 20 clinics in total. Ryan is confident MYA can become one of the biggest companies in the sector in the UK. Given that Transform was believed to be the biggest cosmetic surgical operation in Europe at the time of its sale in 2002, the ambition seems achievable.

"When I started out, cosmetic surgery was something people rarely considered.” said Ryan. "Now there is room in the UK market for a top class cosmetic surgery company. The UK market is still fragmented, and there are only a handful of significant players. I am confident of creating a major brand.”

MYA is featuring model and dancer Naomi Milbank Smith in some of the ads. She came to prominence in the Channel 4 programme Shipwrecked and recently underwent breast enlargement surgery with MYA.

The Raft is producing the creative work for an integrated advertising campaign which includes press ads, online advertising and direct marketing.

Phil Storton managing director of The Raft said: “Developing the Make Yourself Amazing brand from scratch has been an exciting and challenging project for us.”
