Holiday firm Shearings has taken the decision to make Karen Gee, a well-known figure within the travel industry, redundant from her position of sales and marketing director as part of a wider board shake up.
Gee, a veteran of the sector, with a CV boasting names such as Airtours, First Choice and Sky Travel, is believed to have left her role earlier this month after the position of marketing director was scrapped.
The move comes as part of a broader restructure, which has resulted in another board member, Jimmy King, vacating the position of transport director.
Meanwhile Alan MacLean has been recruited from rivals Saga Holidays as commercial director and will now oversee the newly merged marketing and product teams.
Gee’s departure comes just four months after Denis Wormwell joined the firm as chief executive.
Wormwell has since stressed that he is determined to shake off the perception of the business as simply being a ‘coach operator’ and expand its hotels division – a strategy that will see a further four properties added to the company’s portfolio this year.
Wormwell has, in the past, been quoted as saying he was an admirer of Saga’s CRM abilities and previously worked alongside MacLean when both held directorships at Thomas Cook.
It is not known whether Gee currently has another position to move to within the industry.
