Chris Larkin has been appointed the new communications director at the University of Salford.
Larkin He’ll be responsible for managing internal communications, media relations and branding in corporate marketing and online. While his background is in PR, his most recent venture was the launch of Cheshire-based organic baby food company, So-Baby, with his wife. That came in 2005 when he left Marks & Spencer Money, where he was head of brand and corporate communications. “The University of Salford is a wonderful challenge for me. It has an excellent reputation and there are many exciting initiatives – such as its presence at MediaCityUK from 2011 and its plans to develop its campus – all opportunities to enhance its reputation even further as an enterprising university. I’m really looking forward to getting involved,” he explained. Larkin has also worked for Hill & Knowlton PR and Nationwide Building Society. “We are delighted to welcome Chris on board at a time when the University is undergoing transformation and setting out its strategic direction for the next eight years,” added Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Hall. “His role is pivotal in increasing awareness and standing of the University in current and emerging markets and amongst key stakeholders, communities and other key influencers.” He’ll start in the new job on November 30th.
