Venture Xtreme, a new leisure initiative created by Steve Jones and backed by Preston developer David Taylor Partnerships, has retained Kendal design company Lavahouse for the launch and development of its brand identity.

Venture Xtreme has raised over £60m for the first phase of its development to build and operate six centres around the UK which the company claims will offer world class sporting and entertainment facilities. The first two sites will be in Rotherham and at Silvertown in east London.

Lavahouse won the work after pitching against two other agencies last year.

The initial work has been to create the brand identity and the agency is now developing the brand across a range of promotional material including the company’s web site.

The logo itself has been designed with possible overseas expansion in mind. “It has a strong visual appeal” said Lavahouse MD Steve Scott.

Steve Jones, managing director and co-founder of Venture Xtreme and a former world class caver himself said that Lavahouse won the work on the strength of its passion and motivation for VX.

The leisure developments will include a wide range of physical pursuits ranging from rafting, scuba diving, canoeing, surfing to mountain biking, skydiving, bungee jumping and will also offer children activities such as tobogganing, outdoor adventure centres and a ‘snow room’.

Lavahouse was established in 2004 by Scott and the agency currently employs four staff.

Other agency projects include a recent win to create the brand identity, the web site and the promotional material for the HE and FE communications and co-ordination unit in London for the 2012 Olympics. An early task joked Scott “will be to come up with a new name.”
