The Liverpool Culture Company is in the process of a tender to recruit PR support, but, contrary to rumours circulating within the design industry, is not yet looking to re-brand the city following its reign as European Capital of Culture.
Speculation has focused on the belief that after 2008 the city powers would reconsider the brand positioning of Liverpool and engage in a tendering process to find an appropriate design partner. Spring of next year had been mooted as a potential start date for this procedure. However, speaking to How-Do LCC’s Mike Doran dismissed the rumours as “Chinese whispers.” “I didn’t even realise we were looking beyond 2008 yet,” he commented. “We will be looking into the strategic development of the city and its cultural image after next year, but there’s nothing decided as yet at all. To be honest there’s far more pressing matters at hand than looking that far into the future.” Doran did reveal that one tendering process is currently underway though, with the company negotiating with PR agencies in the search for ongoing support. “I can’t say who we’re speaking to, but the tender documents are in and the probability is that we’ll be selecting someone for the job over the next couple of weeks.” He refused to disclose whether the agencies are locally based, although it is assumed that there will be a strong contingent from Liverpool. The LCC currently works with Finch on advertising and marketing briefs, while LLM handles lobbying tasks. www.liverpool08.com
