The £10m residential golf academy, contructed by Liverpool developer Maghull, includes a new nine-hole academy course, a four star hotel, golf resort, health and fitness facilities with pool and spa, a sports injuries rehabilitation clinic and will also be the new home of the PGA’s Northern HQ.

The PGA Golf Academy is the first of its kind in the UK and will be a National Centre of Excellence for Amateur Golf Training. It is affiliated with Formby Hall Golf Club and will operate alongside the existing club facilities.

The Academy will initially be focusing its promotional efforts on travel, sport and leisure media, domestically and internationally.

White Marketing has been tasked with creating and managing the brand identity, Paver Smith the PR and Rippleffect is to build the web site and handle the e-marketing.

Formby Hall Golf Club's director of marketing, Gaynor Black, said: "Paver Smith, Rippleffect and White Marketing all have strong experience in the travel and leisure sectors and this played a key role in the agency selection process. I am confident that we have the right team in place to launch the new PGA golf academy with a bang."

Michael Hanlon, managing director of Maghull Developments, said:“We are delighted to be working with both the PGA and Formby Hall Golf Club on this unique and exciting golf project, which we believe will affirm the borough of Sefton to be the Golf Capital of the UK."

Mark Rabone, director of golf at Formby Hall Golf Club, added: “This is a real coup for us to be a significant part of the PGA’s initiatives to develop the game within the UK. It is a fantastic opportunity for both Formby Hall Golf Club and the whole of the North West region, and we will be providing a facility which develops the budding talent that already exists within the UK, and also nurture that talent to produce the golfing stars of tomorrow.”
