Manchester’s first Krispy Kreme outlet is on the brink of touching down in Trafford Park, and local agency MC2 has picked up the coveted launch PR brief.
The iconic - although ultimately, in global terms, troubled - doughnut maker plans to open its new drive-through ‘Hot Light’ store in December. MC2 will have the task of managing the no-doubt glittering launch and ensuring that crowds are on hand to sample the famously sweet KK confections. The agency won the assignment following a competitive pitch against a host of local rivals, that are believed to have included Brazen, Golley Slater and Connectpoint. Krispy Kreme’s Pierre Meyer said that it was the team’s “creativity and strategic focus” that secured them the business. Speaking about the win MC2’s Abby Wright added: “There is a high demand already in Manchester (for the doughnuts) and we have some really exciting things planned to make sure that everybody is talking about them." Krispy Kreme has been making doughnuts since 1937 but has recently been hit hard by global trends towards healthier eating and lifestyles. Shares in the US company fell by 25% last month after its second quarter losses grew to $27million from $4.6million in the same period the year before. http://www.mcmc.co.uk/
