McCann Erickson is launching its latest summer school today, inviting 16 top design students to get a feel of what it’s like to be in marketing.
Suprisingly the press release doesn’t mention "blue sky" sessions down the local pub, playing on the internet and choosing trendy clothes. Instead they'll have an intensive two week programme looking at the agency's different departments – digital, creative, PR, planning and account management. See – no mention of pubs, internet or shopping.
McCann The 4 groups of students will be given a brief by one of the agency’s clients, Marshalls and at the end of the session they’ll have to pitch their campaign. They’ll also be writing a daily blog to pass on their experience at mechsummerschool.com – aha playing on the internet. To celebrate their efforts and achievements the students will then join the rest of the agency at its Summer Party – as predicted, a drinking session. "We’re delighted to be running Summer School for the second year running. Last year was a real success and helped us to attract and identify the best talent from across the UK," explained Nicola Stout, people director at McCann Erickson Communications House. "This year’s students are all full of enthusiasm and passion and we hope to offer a number of work placements and jobs to those who demonstrate real talent." Also note that McCann sent us the picture on the right, the students will think they’ve walked onto the set of High School Musical… Still no mention of trendy clothes though. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
