McCann Erickson has finally unveiled its new director of PR, following on from the departure of Rob Brown to rival North West agency Staniforth earlier in the year.
Robin Wilson (pictured) is the new man in the hot seat, heading up from London’s Bite PR, where he was a board director, to take on the brief of growing the public relations offering at the agency’s Bonis Hall base. The move is an interesting one for the near 300 strong agency, as it signifies an appreciation of the growing power of digital PR and the increasingly significant role the medium plays in the wider marketing mix. At Bite Wilson was the man charged with overall responsibility for the team’s digital services and the running of its integrated digital campaigns. It seems that this has wooed a firm that has seen considerable expansion in its McCann-I offering (which now employs 40 members of staff) and now wishes to harness the power of “social media, online media relations, interactive campaigns and blogger relations” to further serve its client’s needs. McCann managing partner Jonathan Eaves commented: “Robin is one of the UK’s leading exponents of digital PR and the associated technologies and his appointment will put us at the forefront of this space. “By aligning our PR offering with our broader online services we believe we can create a unique range of services for clients all under a single roof.” Wilson, who is 39, has an 18-year career in PR behind him and has worked with clients such as Apple, Facebook, MTV, Motorola, Tiger Beer and Yahoo. He will now work alongside the agency’s current business development PR director Jim Rothnie. PR clients at McCann include the likes of Aldi, Peugeot, NHS, the Environment Agency, MFI and drinks manufacturer Halewood International.
