Mere and Keep Britain Tidy don’t like big butts | Print |  Email to a friend
Thursday, 10 April 2008
Unlike Sir Mixalot the team at Mere Communications aren’t a fan of big butts. However, they aren’t afraid to get their own out when the occasion demands it.
Sir Mixalot may be a fan of big butts, but the team at Mere Communications certainly aren't. Nevertheless, that doesn't stop them getting their own out when the occasion demands it.

Pictured is the latest activity that the Altrincham-based PR firm has carried out on behalf of long-term client Keep Britain Tidy.

In an effort to highlight the increasingly ugly problem of cigarette litter, the agency hoisted its 10m high, 1.5m wide fag end down to, and out in, one of the capital’s most iconic locations, Trafalgar Square.

Mere: getting their butt on TV
According to the client the size of the butt represents the number of stubs that are discarded onto pavements and roadsides every year, making this type of rubbish the country’s largest single litter issue.

And one that costs the taxpayer millions of pounds to clear up.

As Mere director Victoria Moore explained:  “Since the launch of the smoking in public places ban on 1 July 2007, the level of cigarette litter has continued to soar and we are now seeing an epidemic of fag ends on the streets of the UK.

“We are delighted to be working with Keep Britain Tidy to communicate the message that dumping fag stubs on the ground is disgusting.”

The activity was masterminded to launch Keep Britain Tidy’s most concerted anti-smoking litter campaign to date.  It has so far achieved widespread media coverage, including appearances on ITV and CNN.
