Moneysupermarket shopping for agencies in new online launch | Print |  Email to a friend

Industry speculation has suggested that Moneysupermarket Financial Group, owners of price comparison website moneysupermarket.com, is in talks with a host of agencies over a new multi-million pound launch. The Chester based firm has a roster of London agencies, but industry insiders suspect that some of the bigger North Western players could be in the hunt for the new business.

The online product launch is currently shrouded in mystery, with the firm only willing to state that it is happening and will be different from its existing propositions.

However, it is expected to play on the huge brand equity that moneysupermaket.com has established since launching in 1993, using the expertise and consumer knowledge accrued from its main website’s huge visitor numbers (some 64 million last year, creating 523 million page impressions) and turnover (over £100 million in 2006).

One of the potential agency frontrunners, from a regional perspective, could be Prestbury’s McCanns – particularly seeing as the current Moneysupermarket chairman, Gerald Corbett, is also chairman of key agency client SSL International Plc.

A spokesperson at the agency could not confirm this to How-Do though, stating that they had no knowledge whatsoever of any contact with the firm to date.

The launch is understood to be scheduled for January and expected to have - given the competitive nature of the financial sector - at least a substantial seven-figure marketing budget behind it.

Moneysupermarket currently uses Doner Cardwell Hawkins for above the line tasks and TBG for digital.
