National law firm Hill Dickinson appoints SKV PR | Print |  Email to a friend
Wednesday, 18 April 2007
The Manchester office of top 40 law firm Hill Dickinson has appointed Spinoza Kennedy Vesey PR (SKV) to help raise the profile of its Manchester operation – locally, regionally and nationally.

SKV won the business after a competitive pitch. The value of the new business is not disclosed.

Hill Dickinson has hitherto managed all its communications and marketing services in- house. The new contract is specific to Manchester and does not include the firm’s London or Liverpool operations.

Hill Dickinson is headquartered in Liverpool and has further offices in London and Chester. The Manchester office accounts for £12m of fee income. The firm has almost 1200 staff including 140 partners. In 2005 it was named UK Regional Law Firm of the Year by Legal Business magazine and last year it was named Property Law Firm of the Year by North West Insider.

The firm has historically been best known for its work in insurance and marine law but over the past few years it has, in common with its peers, broadened its offering to encompass a full range of commercial services.

The Manchester office has 150 staff including almost 30 partners and occupies almost 50,000 sq ft of space in two offices on Fountain Street.

David Wareing
David Wareing, head of Hill Dickinson Manchester, accepts that the city is a competitive marketplace but “our firm has grown substantially since we opened an office here ten years ago.”

There is a perception that the firm’s size and scale is not fully appreciated by the commercial community in Manchester. The firm sees its principal competitors in the city as Cobbetts, Halliwells and Pannone (rather than the nationals such as DLA and Eversheds) but accepts awareness of those firms and their size is currently much greater than that of Hill Dickinson.

Wareing added: “Our firm’s offer has changed since we’ve opened and this requires communication. We felt we needed to get closer to the Manchester community so we took the view that we needed to contract out to fulfil a specific brief to increase the firm’s profile in the region. SKV particularly impressed us with its connectivity, strength in depth and sector knowledge. We very much look forward to working with them.”

Andrew Spinoza, managing director of SKV, said: “We’re delighted to be appointed by Hill Dickinson and to be applying our skills and knowledge to support the firm’s Manchester practice as it expands.”
