North West loves digital and regional news says Golley Slater | Print |  Email to a friend

Communications agency, Golley Slater in Manchester, has released Dialect, a new quarterly report into behaviour, buying habits and attitudes of British consumers.

North West loves digital and regional news says Golley Slater
Should have gone online
The survey of 2026 people nationwide showed that those in the North West are the most online-savvy, as they read the most blogs, listen to the most podcasts and watch and download the most videos clips.

At the same time, it found that their most trusted news medium was national television and they also valued regional television news.

“These results are a fascinating insight into the digital habits of people in our region. They reveal that the North West is a leader in the online revolution, and consumers are not shy when it comes to utilising all the tools available online,” said Agatha Chapman-Poole, head of office for Golley Slater Manchester.

Local news lovers
“It is interesting that despite being pioneers of digital options however, the North West has retained a community-focussed attitude, with a high proportion of people understanding the importance of regional news to keep abreast of what is happening in their area. This reinforces the importance of maintaining and supporting local news channels whether TV, radio, print or online.”

North West consumers are second only to London in their online food shopping, but prefer to browse shopping centres for clothes.

This is the equivalent of an arthritic uncle doing a wedding twist to the new Arctic Monkeys single. File it under "PR agency appears to look 'with it' no. 563".

Wafer-thin evidence without the merest shred of believability (so north west people listen to the most podcasts, do they?). Plucked-from-the-air tally of surveyees. Thinly-veiled attempt to push the value of the traditional media you're much happier dealing with (conclusion: people like the telly).

Yup, all there.

At least we could read the report without having to negotiate some enormous, data-syphoning gateway form. Oh, hang on...
