Peugeot drives out of McCanns after 24 years | Print |  Email to a friend

McCann Erickson Manchester has lost one of its longest standing accounts, after Peugeot yesterday announced it was moving the creative for its dealership business down to the London office of Euro RSCG.

The move is likely to be seen as a consolidation tactic by the French car giant, which is currently suffering, along with its automotive peers, in the face of the global downturn.

This is because RSCG holds the brand’s main £30m advertising account and will now be aligning that alongside the dealership brief, which covers a network of some 300 locations.

McCann pitched for the business, losing out to RSCG in a head to head contest.

A spokesperson from the Prestbury-based agency spoke to How-Do about the development.

They commented: "We can confirm that Peugeot’s UK dealer marketing business has been awarded to Peugeot’s brand agency Euro RSCG following a competitive review process.

"Having successfully retained a piece of business for more than 24 years it is inevitably a disappointment to lose such a long standing client.

"For the record McCann retains both the media buying and planning and PR business for Peugeot’s UK dealer marketing operation.

"While it is obviously disappointing to start the new year with a business loss, we have recently secured a number of significant wins which put us in a strong position for the year ahead.”

The spokesperson added: "At this stage it is too early to say whether the loss will have any impact in terms of possible redundancies”

Peugeot was a foundation client of the agency in my day. It will be missed. Greatly.
