PR for £99 from piggy bank | Print |  Email to a friend
Friday, 28 November 2008

New Liverpool agency piggy bank is offering to do basic PR services for £99.

PR for £99 from piggy bank
Latta
Set up by former Liverpool Echo journalist Ian Latta, he said that the industry needs to adapt to the changing markets:

"We believe a basic menu of public relations, tailored to meet the pockets of smaller companies and over-stretched in-house teams, is just what is needed
right now.

"We don’t overcomplicate things, we simply offer value-for-money PR with no strings attached."

They say it’s aimed at smaller companies which can’t afford or don’t need full services. They’ll also be targeting in-house PR teams which are looking save money.

We haven't linked to their website as it's still under construction...

This type of marketing ploy runs the risk of cheapening an industry that has worked hard at building a reputation for quality.

What sort of service is any client really going to receive for £99?

Agatha, I understand why you would say this, however, I bet British Airways gave a similar reaction when Ryan Air and Easy Jet came on the scene.

The truth is some companies want all singing all dancing full service and others will want bit-sized chunks of help. Those who have bite sized chunks now may find an appetite for a three course meal later on.

It could be a stroke of genius that may change how the industry works and also adds another level of healthy competition.

Agatha,

I can assure you it's a not a marketing ploy.

We've spent a lot of time listening to the views of SMEs and overstretched/under-resourced in-house PR teams, who tell us they want to pick and choose what PR they want, when they want it, and only pay for what they use.

It's called listening to your customers.

In this current climate, the PR market is changing and the PR industry has to move with it.

Oh, and please don't think that value-for-money can't possibly equal quality.

From just £99, our clients are already receiving a great service from a team grounded in journalism, PR and political lobbying.

I think this is a very good idea and it does not de-value our trade but adds a new pricing structure. The comparison with the airline sector is accurate in that it appears that the starting price is £99 but then clients can then buy in additional services. This is clearly targeted at the SME sector (i.e. the lo-cost traveller rather than the business traveller using the airline example) and facilitates an entry point for SMEs to avail themselves of PR professional support.

I think it's a great idea. To beat the recession, there's a few old slappers at the back of Sackville St who offer similar basic services for £99. Well done Ian for not cheapening the industry.

Good comparison: the airline industry!

PR of course shares the same issues of fuel prices, airport security, leisure being prone to less consumer spending etc

It is more like an agency offering websites for £99. Would anyone take such an Internet agency seriously? Would the product and service be as good as a reputable specialist agency? No
