Creative agency, Wonder Associates, has launched a new web site to commemorate the 200 year anniversary of the abolition of the Slave Trade.
The site, www.revealinghistories.co.uk , was commissioned by Renaissance North West and MLA (Museums Libraries Archives) North West.
From 1690 to 1807 British ships transported an estimated 2.8 million Africans. Much of this activity involved ships from from Liverpool and Bristol.
The Lancashire cotton industry imported the majority of its cotton from slave-grown estates and in turn large quantities of Manchester textiles were subsequently traded for slave in West Africa.
Wonder Associates, based in Manchester, has also recently picked up a new project from Yorkshire Vybe – funded by the Arts Council – to promote Yorkshire’s African and Caribbean cultural events. The project includes brand identity and marketing. Anita Morris Associates are handling the PR.
