SKV is masterminding a new campaign which will ask the public to take a fresh look at Blackpool and in the process seek to change what it is felt are outdated perceptions and negative views of what Blackpool has to offer and encourage them to visit the 'new' Blackpool.

The campaign will run over the spring and into summer. With over 10 million visits a year, the seaside town remains one of Europe's leading tourist destinations.

The Manchester PR Agency will be using both traditional and contemporary PR techniques to deliver the message.

Traditional PR is planned around a series of events including Out2Dance – claimed to be the world’s largest outdoor dance festival – and the European Beach Volleyball and World Fireworks Championships. A launch to celebrate Blackpool achieving cycle town status is also scheduled at the beginning of the summer.

A full range of social media will also be employed, from viral campaigns to Flickr, YouTube and other online platforms which SKV is hoping will help create chatter and curiosity about the 'new' Blackpool and stimulate interest among punters in seeing for themselves the “many initiatives taking place.”

SKV will be working alongside Visit Blackpool, Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board and the NWDA.

Cllr Maxine Callow, cabinet member for Tourism at Blackpool Council said: “Blackpool has a very positive message to tell – this year’s being billed as the British holiday comeback and Blackpool has a huge amount to offer.  Social networking sites like these will ensure that we get the message out to young people and tell them about all the great events we have planned.”

Geraldine Vesey of SKV Communications added:“There are many people who aren’t aware of the range of award winning accommodation and entertainment that’s on offer. The great British holiday is making a welcome return and we’re positioning Blackpool as the perfect place to have fun with a series of cheeky ideas.”
