Taylor joins Littlewoods Shop Direct as head of external communications | Print |  Email to a friend

Littlewoods has appointed Anthony Taylor as its head of communications for the Shop Direct division. He will report into Littlewoods’ group communications director David Boardman.

Taylor, 35, joins the £2bn turnover Liverpool retailer from the General Medical Council where he spent three years helping to build up the regulator’s new PR team in Manchester.

He began his career as a PR exec at Mason Williams in Manchester before moving down to London where he was latterly with Lawson Dodd. After a couple of years there he decided he’d “had his fill of London” and a friend told him about an opportunity in the Turks and Caicos Islands with a newly acquired publishing company. So he moved out the Caribbean tax haven and spent four years running Times Publications and helped to restore the company back to profitability.

However an opportunity to acquire or have a stake in the business proved elusive and he and his new Canadian bride decided to try elsewhere and they chose the North West.

His first job back in the UK was a four month contract helping Manchester’s leading law firm Addleshaws through its merger with London firm Theodore Goddard.

“These are exciting times to be joining Littlewoods” said Taylor. “The business is undergoing significant transformation and it’s a great time to be a part of it.

“I enjoyed my time at the GMC but fancied getting back into a more commercial environment.

“We’re 18 months into a five year plan here and it’s a challenge to restore the Littlewoods brand name as part of the fabric of UK retailing.
