2M Media, the publisher of Manchester and Liverpool.confidential.com is today launching its first site outside its native North West and has targeted the unsuspecting citizens of Leeds.
The website is initially being run from Manchester with Jonathan Schofield, editor of ManCon, looking after the site as it finds its feet. Schofield has recruited a team of freelancers from Yorkshire to populate the site. However, Mark Garner, the publisher stressed that discussions with new staff are ongoing and a dedicated Leeds based editor will be in place within three months.
Garner also claimed that the new site will be profitable within its first month of operation; such has been the enthusiastic response they have encountered from Leeds advertisers to the ‘Confidential platform’. He also claimed that LeedsConfidential.com starts with an advantage over Liverpool and Manchester, as a significant number of Confidential readers are already in West Yorkshire postcodes.
Sammons 2M Media launched LiverpoolConfidential.com in November 2006 and claims that the site attracted 15,536 unique visitors in January this year. Its editor is the Liverpool journalist Angie Sammons.
ManchesterConfidential.com, which launched in 2004, it is claimed, attracted 111,392 unique visitors in January with just over half of the total visitors signing up to receive daily emails.
Garner said that revenues are currently growing at around 6% per month and the £1m sales barrier is now clearly in sight.
“Over 60% of our advertisers have become regulars because of the fantastic return on their monthly investment with us.
“Our readers consider the portals to be a trusted source of information on where to eat, where to go out and what’s hot in their city. In addition, innovations like the daily news in no more than 250 words are proving a great hit.
“I believe we will be the largest non broadcast media in the North West and Yorkshire by the end of this year.”
With the addition of Leeds, Garner believes the three sites combined will be attracting circa 200,000 readers, a figure which starts to make advertising on the sites meaningful for national advertisers.
