Following last month’s announcement by MEN Media that redundancies were required, it is understood that over 80 staff have applied for consideration for voluntary redundancy.
MEN management said in April that the company needed to conduct a root and branch review of its Manchester operation – print, digital and broadcast - in response to increasing digital and broadcast needs and declining print revenues. Last week, at a turbulent meeting of the NUJ chapel in Manchester, a ballot to consider industrial action was threatened, should the company seek to impose compulsory redundancies. The chapel also rejected the company's offer of a 2.5% pay rise. Elaine Darbyshire, communications director at the MEN, declined to comment. Something to add?
