A cracking week for Anne Pickles and Cumbrian Newspapers | Print |  Email to a friend

Following their successes at the Press Gazette regional awards, Anne Pickles and the Cumberland News were both winners again, this time at the North West Newspaper Awards.

The Cumberland News won the weekly paper of the year while Pickles picked up the feature writer award. Fellow CN title, the Carlisle News & Star made it a hat trick for the CN group when it won the daily paper award.

These awards are organised by the Society of Editors North West. The current chair of the Society, Richard Catlow, said “Although we’ve not had a record number of entries this year, it’s still been a very good number.” He added that he hoped this year would be the last year that solely print titles were recognised and added he was keen to ensure next year included digital publications.

Chris Bascombe of the Liverpool Echo also had a good week, capping his ‘highly commended’ nomination at the PG awards by winning the Sports Reporter prize.

Other individual awards went to Neal Keeling of the MEN (News), Jennifer Hollamby of the Oldham Evening Chronicle (Young Journalist) and Colin Lane of the Post & Echo (Photographer).
