Local lifestyle, leisure and listings magazine All About Manchester is set to introduce a digital edition this March. The move will see publisher Selini Publishing looking to expand its readership base and offer video, 360-degree photography and augmented reality content. How-Do caught up with the firm's publishing director Evie Lucas to find out more.
Free monthly title All About Manchester was launched in 2005 and currently prints around 130,000 copies a year, claiming to reach an audience of 500,000 people. Its main target audience is visitors to the city. Lucas explained that the decision to launch a 'state-of-the-art digital edition' of the magazine was motivated by a desire "to satisfy the ever-growing demand for copies without increasing our printing costs. "It's a cost-efficient way to increase our circulation and gather more information about our readers," she added. Digital plans Rather than simply updating content on the magazine's site (www.allaboutmanchester.com) Lucas argued that the digital edition would help people experience the magazine in its original form, while adding value from "a few of the things we're experimenting with at the moment", such as video, 360-degree photography and augmented reality, to help bring the title "to life".The full magazine, including advertising and added features, will be delivered to subscriber inboxes 10 times a year. Subscription is free (you can sign up here) and will be promoted through the title itself and driven through client mailing lists and joint competitions. Of the readership target the firm is aiming for, Lucas imparted: "Our first target is 20,000 subscribers by December 2010. This is a very realistic target considering the fact that we had 9,500 registered subscribers for our monthly e-newsletter last year." The birth of the digital magazine would complement, rather than mark the end of, the printed edition, stressed Lucas. She noted that "the printed version is still going strong." All About Manchester is printed in partnership with Manchester City Council and Marketing Manchester. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
