Ruth Allan, a well-known journalist on the North West cultural scene, has taken up the position of deputy Metro Life editor (Manchester) following the departure of Lucie Davies in October.
Allan stepped into the role within the last two weeks. She originally worked as a member of the editorial team on City Life, until its closure in 2005, and has since established her reputation freelancing across a raft of publications, including The Guardian, The Independent and the Manchester Evening News. In that time she was a regular columnist in the MEN’s pullout what’s on guide (also known as CityLife) and was also responsible for The Independent’s one-off Manchester supplement, produced to coincide with the 2006 Labour Conference. A figure from the local arts community welcomed her arrival at the paper, telling How-Do that it would give the morning free-sheet someone that “really knows and understands” the city’s thriving cultural community. Allan herself was unavailable for comment at the time of writing. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
