Alvaston negotiating to sell ad agency Creation | Print |  Email to a friend

Plus market listed Alvaston Media is understood to be negotiating the sale of its advertising agency Creation to the management team.
Plus market listed Alvaston Media is understood to be negotiating the sale of its advertising agency Creation to the management team.

Alvaston, which originally aspired to be a marketing and media conglomerate, acquired Creation out of administration early in 2007.

Some pundits have also recently suggested that The Magazine, the monthly lifestyle publication which Alvaston bought in March, was also under review but managing director Mark Brown was adamant when he told How-Do that “I am delighted with the progress the title is making.”

When quizzed about the publication’s advertising revenue, he conceded the market was tough but said that the July issue, due out today, was healthy enough and that bookings for August were encouraging. He also added that special one-off publications related to projects such as Sec’s and the City and Pride (in August) were going particularly well.

Brown added that the company was in acquisitive mode in the publishing sector.

In March, Alvaston said that: “The Magazine will be back soon, sexier, sassier and smarter than ever.

“To find out just how much sexier contact Nicola Smith. Or to find out how much smarter, get in touch with Mark Brown.”

In May, the company’s former chairman, Carl Hopkins, resigned as non-executive chairman. At the time he told how-Do: “My background is in the marketing industry, not publishing.

“They have aspirations in publishing now, which I don’t, so I think the time was right to move on.”

In my opinion The Magazine's future must still be in doubt. Even if every ad has been sold at rate card rate (most unlikely) the figures just don't add up! And there appear to be at least a couple of contra-deals.

Maybe, but July's edition is impressive. I hope it continues with less of the doubt and speculation.

I think the general lack of comment reflects the fact that this publication is of little interest or importance to anyone. So, long may this lack of petty bickering continue!

To me it looks like a wannabe Hello but without the substance - and readership of course!
