The bi-monthly county magazine Lake District Life is to be incorporated into Lancashire Life from June. Both the Archant-owned titles are already run from Preston.
The current editor of Lake District Life, Paul Mackenzie, will continue to look after a branded ‘Lakes section’ of the merged title and will become deputy editor to Roger Borrell, editor of Lancashire Life. Borrell also has editorial responsibility for Cheshire Life, Yorkshire Life, North East Life, Living Edge and these magazines’ associated websites.
Lancashire Life's monthly circulation of over 25,000 makes it the UK's best-selling county magazine .
The May/June issue of Lake District Life will be its last as a stand-alone title.
Borrell told How-Do that: "All the recent research has shown Lancashire readers have a strong affinity with the Lakes. In fact, features and pictures from this beautiful area are in their top three must-read items. It made sense to bring the two publications together in a way which further strengthens the UK's biggest selling title while reducing our costs. I'm sure it will be well received and we look forward to welcoming Lake District Life subscribers and advertisers to Lancashire Life.
Borrell "We are certainly not abandoning the Lakes - it has been a very successful area for us and we are determined to continue that growth under the banner of Lancashire Life." Borrell added that “Lancastrians were very protective of the ancient county boundaries which stretched as far north as Coniston and Windermere prior to local government reorganisation. It means there will no longer by any confusion over which magazine covers which part of the Lakes."
Archant’s rival local Lakes title, Cumbria Life, owned by CN Newspapers, increased frequency of its county title from bi-monthly to monthly last September. Something to add? Then leave a comment below or email us now.
