The new monthly publication Asian Lite was launched last Friday in Manchester. A number of leading figures from the business and Asian community gathered in Chinatown to celebrate the event.
Asian Lite is targeting Asian professionals and is circulating over 20,000 copies per issue via distribution deals with a variety of Asian professional groups. The editor and publisher, Anasudhin Azeez, is adamant that the new title will be less focused on negativity than the other Asian titles in the market.
“It is surprising” he said “when our national characteristic is that the glass is half full, rather than half empty, that so many Asian stories have negative connotations.”
Official dignitaries attending the launch included the Lord Mayor of Manchester Glynn Evans, Sajjad Karim MEP, former mayor Councillor Afzal Khan and Buddhev Pandya MBE.
The mayor said that “the new title will help the Asian community to cement its cultural identity and improve better community relations. “Manchester has played an important role in the immigration of Asians to Britain,” he continued. “The city had witnessed the arrival of thousands of Asians during the heydays of cotton mills. The chimneys are no more active today but the community is still thriving. They have found alternative work in various small scale and big businesses. The new generation is breaking the glass ceilings and instead of treading through worn paths, they prefer to become trail blazers.”
Azeez told How-Do the launch issue had broken even and bookings were encouraging for future issues. Early advertisers include fashion, beauty and property companies. www.asianlite.co.uk/
