Go Creative Design, part of Sale’s AWA, has bought Media Mission for an undisclosed sum from publishing house GovNet Communications.
Media Mission is a long established name amongst Manchester’s design denizens, originally falling into Paul Carroll’s stable, alongside Communique, and dealing with clients such as Manchester United. A series of substantial design contracts from GovNet led to its acquisition by the group, as the firm concentrated increasingly on magazine production.
However, speaking to How-Do, GovNet’s owner Jo Walsh explained that she felt the time had come to sell the firm and that GovNet’s contracts could be better served with the new Go/Media Mission entity rather than in-house.
She stated that she had had two offers for the agency in recent times but opted for AWA as “Graeme Wood (AWA’s chief) shared my vision for future growth and Pete Johnston (the firm’s creative director) has the greatest understanding of how my publications and events look.”
Go’s director Paul Ashworth clearly welcomes that decision, as he enthused: “Media Mission has a great reputation in the industry. The team’s public sector experience in particular will open up new doors for Go, allowing us to grow the business on several fronts.”
The development will see Go take on Media Mission’s staff and secure the contracts to produce GovNet’s suite of magazines (including Health Director, Modern Government and Government IT) and their associated marketing material.
Go will now split into four divisions, as follows; Go Public, servicing the public sector; e-go, offering new media solutions; Go Display, carrying out POS and exhibition briefs; and Go Creative, producing advertising and design work for clients such as Britannia Building Society and the Stamford Quarter shopping centre in Altrincham. Each division will report directly to Ashworth.
The AWA group also includes ad agency AWA and PR firm Rattle.
