In an unusual commercial development, Bury-based independent publisher Big Spark has teamed up with a celebrity artist management company in London, Knight Ayton, to launch eco-you, a magazine which the publisher hopes will capitalise on the growing interest in green issues and sustainable living.
The title will compete in some areas with Centaur’s recently launched Green Magazine. Eco-entrepreneur Yarrow Joanna Yarrow, a presenter with GMTV’s Green Week and BBC3’s Outrageous Wasters and author of several books including ‘1001 Ways You Can Save The Planet’ and ‘How to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint’ will be the magazine’s first editor.
The 52 page saddle-stitched A4 magazine will be printed on recycled paper and initially published quarterly although Big Spark’s MD Stuart Parker told How-Do he believed it would move to bimonthly within a short space of time.
The print run is 100,000 copies which will be distributed free of charge at over 300 Tesco and Sainsbury’s stores.
Parker said the target audience is women of all ages with busy lifestyles and “issues on their mind: from child care to balancing the family budget, keeping healthy and looking good.”
Parker is adamant though that there won’t be a “sniff of worthiness” and that the title “will be served up with wit, flair and some glamour.”
The latter reference is where Knight Ayton will no doubt prove useful as it delivers the celebrity interviews with names “who wish to align themselves with green causes.”
A website will be launched in due course which will contain substantially more information than the print version according to Parker.
