Investigative reporting by The Bolton News’ Julian Thorpe helped police find a £100k cannabis farm.

Bolton News reporter uncovers cannabis farm
Thorpe (Bolton News)
He’d been sent to the area of Burnden, to follow up on a drugs raid on a house the day before.

Speaking to residents, he discovered that men from that property had been regularly visiting another house down the road.

Thorpe took one of his interviewees over to a nearby PC to tell him of their suspicions.

When Greater Manchester Police raided the house they found a set up capable of growing 150 plants every 6 weeks.

Officers also managed to arrest a man as he tried to run away.

Speaking to the paper, Sergeant Mike Jennings said:

"We want to thank The Bolton News for speaking to the residents, who were forthcoming with the information and assisted in us locating the other property."

"Reporter does job" - shock!

Is it a reporter's job to detect crime? I thought that was the job of the police. Surely the reporter's job is to expose the failure of the police to do their job. Maybe I'm just being old fashioned and these days we all work for the police.

you aren't being old fashioned. You are being unbelievably stupid. Its aso worth pointing out that if the so called investigative journo in this story was really any good. He wouldn't have been doing a follow up to a previous days events. He would have there when it happened. !
